Kenya: Several Perish On Account Of Starvation Cult, Mass Graves Discovered

Discovery of mass graves in the Shakahola forest in Eastern Kenya. In keeping with details, allegedly the starvation cult, that is what they call it, has led masses to starve themselves to death in order to go straight to heaven and meet Jesus Christ. Death toll has surpassed 200 figure till now.

Reoprts emerged that Paul Nthenge Mackenzie, previously a taxi-driver had turned into a preacher, televemngelist and self proclaimed prophet. Back in 2003, Mackenzie founded The God News International Church, in colaboration with Ruth Kahindi. The church soon grew popular with large amounts coming in as offerings. Later, Ruth Kahindi left the church on account of disagreement with Mackenzie’s sermons.

In 2017, Mackenzie gained popularity as a televangelist who broadcasted extremely aggressive sermons regarding doomsday on his own Gospel times Tv and his YouTube channel. He claimed that he could directly talk with God, he would force his female followers to shave their heads, forced his followers to quit their jobs and pull their children out of schools. Mackenzie, was arrested for promoting extremist beliefs, claiming that formal education was not Biblical.

Paul Nthenge Mackenzie also declared that the world was about to end and marketed that the Shakahola forest was a santuary from the fast approaching apocalypse. Answering his call, hundreds followed him to the Shakahola forest, which was not a haven but a sun-scorched wasteland of scrub and spindly trees now turned into a gruesome crime scene having shallow graves of his followers who starved themselves to death.

Horrific details surfaced when mass graces were discoveries. In recent past, 179 bodies were exhumed and moved to a hospital mortuary in the town of Malindi, for identification and autopsy. Kenyan government’s chief pathologists reported that starvation was cause of many deaths, some of the bodies showed signs of death by asphyxiation, strangulation or bludgeoning. Some dead bodies has their organs removed, a police affidavit said.

Apprehensively, hundreds more people are who followed him are still missing, it is assumed that they are buried in undiscovered mass graves while others are still wandering the Shakahola forest starved and famished. Chief inspector Martin Munene maintained in an affidavit filed to a Nairobi Court that “Post-mortem reports have established missing organs in some of the bodies of victims who have been exhumed.” He said that it is “believed that trade on human body organs has been well coordinated involving several players,” while he gave no details about the suspected trafficking.

Mackanzie is currently in police custody but he denies having links with the starvation cult saying that he had shut his Good News International Church nearly four years ago. However, hi online sermons are evident that he continued his extremist teachings even in case after closing his church.
